This real photograph postcard of Henry Ainley as Lancelot and Eleanor Robson as Mary Ann in a scene from Israel Zangwill's comedy, Merely Mary Ann, which opened its London run on 8 September 1904, was published in London in 1904 by J. Beagles & Co, series no. 350B. Other members of the cast included Gerald du Maurier as Peter and Susie Vaughan as Lady Chelmer. Miss Robson created the part of Mary Ann in the Broadway production of the play, which opened at the Garden Theatre, New York, on 28 December 1903. On that occasion Peter was played by Frank Doane and Lady Chelmer by Ida Lewis. A film version of Merey Mary Ann, starring Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell, was made in 1931 in which G.P. Huntley junior played the part of Peter.
