Marie Studholme to C. Hayden Coffin
an autograph letter from Marie Studholme (1872-1930),
English musical comedy actress and postcard beauty,
to C. Hayden Coffin (1862-1935), English actor and singer

Opera House
Cork,
Dear Mr. Coffin
Will you tell me how much it costs to start a cot & keep it up, & where it is most needed. I want to have one too. Forgive me for bothering you but it is in a good cause So glad ''Tom Jones'' is such a huge success. We are doing splendidly on tour.
Love to you and Mrs. Coffin
Marie Studholme

This letter, postmarked Cork, 6 May 1907, refers to a hospital cot, which was supported by charitable donations raised by Mr and Mrs Hayden Coffin. At the time Coffin was starring in the title role of the comic opera Tom Jones, which had opened at the Apollo Theatre, London, on 17 April 1907. Miss Studholme, meanwhile, was touring in the musical comedy My Darling, which had ended its relatively short run at the Hicks Theatre, London, on 25 April 1907.
