The London Stage Annual 1904, published by Anthony Treherne & Co Ltd, London, price 1 shilling, was edited by the London-based dramatic critic and literary reviewer, Sidney Dark (1874-1947). He joined the staff of The Daily Mail in 1899, and in 1904 was appointed dramatic critic of The Daily Express. Dark, who was a prolific writer and contributor to many periodicals, eventually became editor of The Church Times.

The London Stage Annual 1904 comprised an introduction by Herbert Beerbohm Tree, various essays (including 'Drama and Crime' by H.B. Irving, 'Concerning Waiters' by George Alexander, 'The Play That Was Never Written' by George R. Sims, and 'An End And a Beginning' by Cosmo Hamilton), several black and white illustrations (including a caricature of Sir Charles Wyndham by Max Beerbohm), and 'Forty Full Page Photographs of Well Known Players' (including Sir Henry Irving, George Alexander, Lily Brayton, Ellaline Terriss, H.B. Irving, Ellen Terry, Constance Collier and Julia Neilson).
